For Japan, with Love

If you’ve been living under a rock for the past week, then this might be news to you. Last friday Japan was hit with a major earthquake with a magnitude in the high 8. Before and after this ‘big one’ there were numerous other earthquakes, up to 6. in magnitude. The result has been catastrophic tsunamis and also unstable conditions of nuclear power plants, which we still await status of. The world holds its breath.

The direct result to the people effected by these earthquakes and tsunamis are, damaged homes, missing persons, an unruly death toll, lack of energy/power, food, shelter, you name it.

The ladies of Utterly Engaged and Ever Ours started a fundraiser with ShelterBox to donate emergency shelters & supplies to Japan. This operation started days after the disaster stuck and has been supported immensely since. I am so humbled by these efforts… and really, it is so effortless for you help out in such a HUGE way. Please check it out. Thank you, UE & Ever Ours.

Bridal bouquet

I just realized this hasn’t been shared yet. Here is a snapshot of C’s wedding bouquet shot by Feather Love. Isn’t it lovely? I had major bouquet envy while I was making it.

Still a little jealous. :)

Ga-ga-Ooh-La-La!

Hi folks! I’ve had a difficult time containing the excitement behind this post. Today I am happy to share our Lady Gaga inspired wedding shoot was featured on The Wedding Chicks! Please check it out here.

The shoot was also picked up by AMP radio, here. and Utah Bride & Groom blog, here… and Martha’s circle, here. And was mentioned on Bride Finds here. And was mentioned on a French blog (unfortunately I have yet to pass Disc 4 with Pimsleur’s French… but I gather they liked what we did)!

We dare say Lady Gaga is the current trend setter & envelope pusher of all fashion and music icons today. So why wouldn’t we be inspired to design a wedding after her? Believe me when I tell you we worked on this shoot with Gaga music on repeat ALL. DAY. It was a great time, and here are some pictures to show for it. Bunch worked on the design & florals, as well as the hair accessories (so fun!). Below, love invite with origami, damask, AND lace: the basis of our concept. For the main show, I gave the bride and guys all bouquets. For the cocktail dress, I gave everyone boutonnieres. Very a-sexual and Gaga-esque, I think.

Bubbles in our floralscape. Pink protea with feathery black tips in her bouquet.

Doesn’t this cake rock??

A table setting for Alejandro.

In honor of Lady Gaga’s infamous meat dress, we had proscuitto served over tofu, with sea salt & black sesame.

A blue lined, lace overlay table setting with a white origami fabric runner. Candles and blue glass vases were all wrapped in lace. The glassware and china were so chic.

Amazing team behind this:

Ashley Taylor Photography – she shared her LOVE for Gaga with us that day, and we had no idea!

Zoie Events – rocked my world with this shoot. SO professional, prepared, the day flowed flawlessly.. EVERYONE on the set commented how organized it was.

IbiCake – SERIOUSLY!?!

Pitbulls & Posies – Darling, fresh, and innovative. LOVE. My favorite were the menus!

Susie Chhuor Make up & Hair – so fantastic to work with.

Valentine’s Day is here.

have a good one, lovers and friends.

The Anatomy of A Sparkler

Hello!!

Issue no. 14 of Utterly Engaged is out, and we got Editor’s Choice again this year! (Page 30) Thank you Lucia!

The design contest theme was [SNAP CRACKLE POP]. Besides rice krispies, what else comes to mind with those words? I wanted to really go a different route with it (I even half jokingly pitched molding the entire tablescape out of rice krispy treats), something not so obvious… something smart… something original… so we developed

[The Anatomy of a Sparkler]. Here is the inspiration board:

We went completely scientific, playing off metals / powders, mixes, dye, test tubes, books, glass jars, formulas… really playing on the sounds and steps it takes to get to that spark. Here are photos from D.Park Photography.

Below: Why yes, i believe it’s cake. Each place setting got a mini unfinished cake, playing on the idea of the anatomy, start, making of an element.

Really wanted to stay away from lavish lush florals, and go the simple, modest route with pin cushions, mums, dusty miller and wax flower (with their buds ever present and waiting to burst). Used some PBR to fill the cups.

our chicken scratch runner, of graph and copy paper with formulas & notes scribbled. (and a round of hang man).

i designed simple stationery to go with this new year’s party theme.

We wanted to incorporate real sparklers but those tested at a life span of 5 minutes. not cool. Overall we were really happy from concept to completion. Definitely not your everyday pretty party… we can do that too, but that’s not really why we’re here.

What do you think?

The awesome team: Ibicake, Zoie Events… and Bunch Studio. Thanks to El Segundo High. Thanks to UE!

EEPS!!! We were also the favorite of some fellow vendors! Thanks so much Enchanted Events & Design and Alders Photography!

Queenie featured once again! + other updates!

Helloooooo…

I am honored that our Queen of Hearts photoshoot is featured once again, this time on The Recycled Bride, HERE. Just in time for Valentine’s Day :) I think it’s a lovely inspiration piece for such a holiday. I find myself more and more in love with these images as time passes. Thanks to the lovely AG for passing along the info, not to mention, again, the photos. <3

Other updates -

So last night we did not win the design challenge (nor the people’s choice). :(

i am convinced i will never win anything in my life. (stupid mega millions..)

BUT I could not have felt more like a winner because we did such a fun, creative and unique tablescape and I am so (SO) proud of my team IBICAKE & ZOIE. i love working with these girls and am happy that I get to work alongside friends, and produce amazingness. Anyway, our tablescape: I can’t wait to share pics bc the concept and scape may just knock your socks off. I wish I had a sneak peak to share, but I hate carrying cameras around. So please, be patient. :] In the meantime here are our PHOTOCUBE pics, a few of many:

(O M L)

AND, I am happy to announce that my good friend Floral Elements, along side with SoHappiTogether & OliveHuePaper won the judged contest! Nothing but love to my fellow vendors. I just met Nancy/SoHappi last night and she is really cool :) Love meeting new industry friends.

This morning, I checked out some amazing photos from a previous wedding, and you ought to come back soon to check em out. You will not be sorry.

Have a lovely Thursday. The weekend is near. I need to get off the internet and clean and pack and meet and call. The cold windy potentially snowy Seattle calls this weekend. My first time. I look forward to it. Ciao.
